How MediComm Works
The MediComm system keeps track of the location of patients, doctors, and nurses,
and assists in the assignment of people to exam rooms. Here are some scenarios
on how MediComm would work in a Physicians
Office and in a Dentists/Orthodontists Office.
If your office doesn't fit the mold, let us know, and
we'll be glad to accommodate you.
Physicians Office
In a Physicians' Office, a doctor typically visits the patient once, and then
calls a nurse or technician for follow up work.
Lets walk through a typical patient's visit to the office. The patient,
let's call her Jane, arrives at the office and checks in at the front
desk. Nurse Betty picks up Jane's chart, and glances at the console screen
to see which room is available. Nurse Betty escorts Jane to room 12, and pushes
the button labeled "JONE" on the Room Module
to signal Dr. Jones that his patient is in
the exam room and waiting. This changes the icon on the Central Console to
yellow, and updates the Doctor's Module to show he has a patient in room
12.

The illustration above shows the state of the module
outside exam room 12. It shows that Doctor Jones has a patient
waiting for him in this room. It also indicates that Doctor Jones
has one patient ahead of Jane in room 14. (The module outside room
14 would also indicate that Dr. Jones should go to room 12 next.)
Once finished in room 14, he glances at the Room Module to
see that room 12 is next. He talks with Jane, and determines that she should
have a Flu shot. Rather than track down a nurse, he simply pushes the
Injection button on the Room Module. The module prompts for what kind of
injection: he press the FLU button. Next, Dr. Jones notices that his next
patient is waiting in exam room 13 and proceeds on his way.
Meanwhile, the Central Consol Chimes, and Nurse
Betty sees a red icon showing that a Flu Shot is needed in room 12. She
touches the console screen to acknowledge the call. This turns the screen
icon to pink, so other nurses know that Betty is taking this call. She
gathers the needed supplies and heads to room 12. She presses the Clear
button on the room Module to clear the call.
Once Jane has received her
Flu shot, Betty escorts her out of the room, pressing the Open button to free up
the room on the Central Console.
Dentist/Orthodontist office
MediComm can also be configured with software appropriate for
other types of medical offices. In a Dentist or Orthodontist office, the doctor typically visits a patient
several times, interspersed with visits from other technicians. MediComm keeps track of
where the doctor and technicians should go next.
Jane arrives at the office, and checks in with the receptionist. The
receptionist types in Jane's name, putting it on the list of patients in the
waiting room. Assistant Betty calls Jane from the waiting room, touches
Jane's name on the Central Consol list, and touches room 12. This puts Jane in room 12, turning
the screen icon yellow.
Betty removes Jane's ligature bands, and sets up tools
for Dr. Smith. She tells Jane Dr. Smith will be in shortly, and presses
the button on the Room Module for Dr. Smith. This updates the room queue, and the room modules
show that room 12 is next after Dr Smith is done in room 14.
Dr
Smith finishes in room 14, and glancing at the Room Module sees that room 12 is next. He visits with Jane,
and when finished, pushes Betty's button to have her help finish up. When Jane is finished, the Open button is pushed, freeing up the
room on the Central Console.
But Our Office is Different...
